Osprey Drones, LLC

Osprey Drones, LLC photography is the capture of still images and video by a remotely-operated or autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), also known as an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) or, more commonly, as a drone. Drone photography allows images and audio/video to be captured that might not be otherwise possible for human photographers and videographers.

The Different Types of Drones Utilized for Arial inspection.

What are Drones?

Another name for unmanned aerial vehicles or UAVs, drones are aerial vehicles that don’t need human pilots to fly. While they were invented a long time back, their commercial use has been quite recent, thanks to their ability to fly quite high and reach rugged terrains. Drones have been used in space and by the military for quite some time, but of late, the consumer market too has exploded with drone options, allowing common people to fly them for various reasons – photography, recreation, surveillance, etc. Farmers have also started to use drones to distribute fertilizers to their farming fields, while engineers make use of drones to keep an eye on pipelines in remote locations.

Types of Drones

Drones can be classified based on their usage. For instance, drones for photography, drones for aerial mapping, etc. However, drones can be best classified based on aerial platforms. Based on the type of aerial platform used, 4 types of drones are used.

1) Multi-Rotor Drones

Multi-Rotor drones are the most common types that are used for most aerial photography, video surveillance, etc. Multi-rotor drones are for professional uses (whose price may range from 500USD to 3K USD) as well as for hobby purposes such as leisure flying (price range from 50USD to 400USD). Based on an aerial platform, multi-rotor drones are the most commonly available drones and also the cheapest option among all the four types. The four types of multi-rotor drones used by Drone Services Philadelphia are Tricopter (3 rotors), Quadcopter (4 rotors), Hexacopter (6 rotors), and Octocopter drones.

2) Fixed Wing Drones

Fixed Wing drones feature a different design and use a ‘wing’ like normal airplanes. Unlike multi-rotor drones, they move forward on their set course or as set by the guide control as long as their energy source permits. Gas engine powered drones can fly up to 16 hours or higher and so, they are the best option for long-distance operations such as mapping or surveillance.

3) Single Rotor Drones

Single rotor drones are quite similar in design & structure to actual helicopters. Single rotor drones are very efficient than multi-rotor versions, have higher flying times, and can even be powered by gas engines. However, they are quite complex to use and are expensive too.

4) Hybrid VTOL

These are hybrid drones that combine the benefits of fixed-wing models with that of rotor based models.
